My old work stopped stocking biorbs because they were just no good and a lot of customers didn't realise not to chuck the stones out you get with them as they form part of the filter. They also scratched far too easily and were very expensive for what they were.

Bowls are no good for fish at all....Considering the fact you can't get a filter in them unless it is like a biorb filter. If you put a normal filter in it would just swirl the fish round and round. Without a filter the waste just builds so fast and yes some fish end up with high immunity levels to it...but would you like to live in a bath of your own waste for a week? It wouldn't be good for you! It at least would shorten their life span. By the way not having a go just saying what I would usually tell customers. I'm also writing this incase someone has similar questions. I know you said you have a round tank :)

Everyone always said to me when I told them this that they had a goldfish in a bowl when they were wee that lived for years. In those days you would find the goldfish were hardier because they weren't all coming from filtered water. The majority of fish you buy these days will come from a shop with filters who will have bought them from a supplier who used a filter.

Goldfish can have a mean streak. Too many people think it is a good idea to put them in with their tropicals. Not only is that not good for the goldfish, but it also ends up with their tropicals getting nipped.

    ANYWAY rambling over

I would probably consider possibly getting a bigger tank. Besides big tanks are the best :P Remember these fish are commonly sold to go in ponds. They can grow very big :) Just make sure everyone gets food and no one is getting stressed and getting whitespot.

When I was at uni I had two goldfish in an ordinary rectangular tank. They got on really well, no chasing or anything. When one died, the other one seemed to be lonely (I don't know if they actually get lonely) so I deep cleaned the tank and got another one, left in to acclimatise in the bag for a bit before releasing it into the tank.
Well it certainly had the desired effect in perking the other one up - but in a bad way. The original fish chased the new one all over the place, the next morning I found it upside down but still breathing behind the filter, with the original fish trying to attack it. I felt awful and put them into separate bowls, tried them one more time but the same happened. I took the new fish back to the shop because I didn't want it to get killed.

The original fish lived many more years by itself and was last seen twice it's original size chasing frogs around my mum's pond!
Ths signature is out of date because I'm too lazy to update it... :o
