Privilege Car Insurance - Guaranteed Hire Car Cover

What does this actually mean? It costs about £20. Don't understand why it says we will not only deliver a hire car to your door, but provide guaranteed hire car on like for like basis. Does that mean that it only about getting a better make of hire car? I.e. if I don't select it will I just get a bog standard car? Any help much appreciated...
Guaranteed Hire Car cover is available under your motor policy for a small additional premium. That means that if your car is damaged (excluding windscreen damage) or stolen and not recovered, and you have to make a claim, we will not only deliver a hire car to your door, but we'll provide a guaranteed hire car on a like for like basis, up to a class D, which is the same size as a VW Golf

Ok you have 2 options:
Courtesy car:
Available only when your car is repairable (ie not a total loss and not stolen and unrecovered). It is only available if you use one of their garages and then only if they have one available. It is also typically only a Corsa type vehicle. Subject to you qualifying for one you get for the full duration of the repairs.
Privilege include this free of charge
Hire Car cover:
This means you automatically get the car irrespective of where the repairs are done and also if the vehicle is either unrepairable or is stolen and not recovered. You will always get it so no "subject to availability. You get a car similiar to your own (generally based on engine size) up to the limit of the policy. So with this if you have a 1.6 Focus you would get something like a 1.6 Golf rather than a 1.1 Corsa. I believe Privilege are changing the rules on this so that it will no go "like for like" up to more than a Group D but you would need to check with them to confirm. The limitation of this is that there is a maximum number of days that you get the hire car for.All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Looks like it worth ticking the box then for piece of mind...0 -
At the end of the day it is effectively another sort of insurance but certainly if you have need of a larger vehicle then it certainly becomes a greater consideration. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
