when to change the cambelt (timing belt)

Hi,

I understand this varies from car to car - does anyone know when it needs doing on these 2 cars?

peugeot 307 sw S 56 plate - 2.0 16v petrol
renault clio - 06 plate - 1.4 expression petrol

Do you have the service book? Should be with your user manual and what not. The details of when it needs to be done should be in there.

ah OK - didn't realise that - the 307 is my car so I'll have a look in the service book - the clio we don't pick up until Monday just wanted to know when it would need doing so I'll have a look in the book when we've got it.

I think the interval for the Clio 1.4 is 70,000 miles. A friend has one but it's an older model.

Quite an obvious tip would be to find out if a timing belt needs done BEFORE you purchase a car; if so use it as a bargaining point, or ask for it to be done by the garage.

I wouldn't buy a car without asking if im needing to be fitting a belt in the next 6 months or not.
