council tax verification officer

Appologies if this is elsewhere but I am running out of time to find it. I had a card through my door yesterday saying that a verification officer had called round with regards to my council tax benefit. I called back earlier and he is coming round at 2pm today!! I have never been in receipt of council tax benefit before so I do not know if this is normal or if its because the think I am at it.

If anyone can give any info I would much appreciate it

Thanks
Emma

All customers in receipt of hb and/or ctax benefit have to have a verification visit, it will take around 15 to 30 mins and it's only to make sure everything is ok with your claim.

Any ideas how many of what I may need please??

You need ID, at least 2 months bank statements/updated pass books for all accounts held, these can be produced later if you haven't got them, if working 2 monthly wage slips or if weekly 8, if retired proof of income eg private pension
The VO will go through your claim and tell you what is required
Don't stress they don't bite lol

I can only find the most current payslip (and some from the start of last year) but sods law I NEVER work overtime except this new year and it shows on my last payslip , I can find Dec and Jan band statements and I have a copy of my tax credit award. I only have a copy of DS nursery fees on my laptop but dont know if that will be ok or not......

As your wages have to be verified and you can't find some the VO may give you a form for the employer to fill in or you can get a copy of any missing wage slips off the employer (vo will tell you). He may ask you to to get the childcare provider to fill in a form for the nursery fees as well
Don't panic he will tell you what you need as and when he goes though the form, you will be given ample time to produce any missing items later

Ah now there is a problem with the wage part - I am the wage clerk :rotfl: Not sure I can fill out my own form and my company are horrendous for sending anything out. There is about a 6 week wait for replacements!!

I am happy (er) now that I know its a normal part of it tho - thought I was under suspision :rotfl:
When I made the claim originally I printed a copy of the nursery fees from my dads computer and that was sufficient so if needs be I can maybe do that again or he can see the costs from my bank statement??

ETA - I am not the main wage clerk but I am the only other person trained to do the job

    Hi
See what he says regarding the wages - if not give him what you have, the assessor may do a YTD (year to date) calc while you wait for head office to provide some copies of your wages
Also highlight the wages on your bank statements, if these are incomplete then you can print off line or get copies if needed

How soon into your claim for council tax benefits does this come please? I will be claiming from next week, and would have been quite scared by a visit had I not read this thread. :o
