i dont know if this is the section for this thread....
I wonder if someone can help me...
I am looking to buy Mitac Mio P350 Digiwalker Pocket PC with Car Kit. having done some research, i came across a website that looks reasonable, moneywise. however i am a bit confused.
Im looking to buy this to use as a navigation system on my travels. on this particular website, they have an option of buying the "tomtom 5" software with it. the software is sold by putting it on a 128MB card. they dont give the software cd, just the memory card with the maps installed.
my confusion:-
- is the 128MB card enough for the complete map to installed?
- if the PDA dies, will i not lose the software?
- is there any why can buy the software CD on its own, and a memory card, and install it myself?
the website im looking to buy from is :- http://www.pdamods.com/products.asp?cat=110
is this a decent price for a PDA?
can anyone help?
Thank you

Hi,
1. 128MB is enough for the software and the UK map.
2. You will not lose the software if your PDA dies. You can lock the card to safe-guard against over writing it.
3. Yes you can get the software on cd. Often for sale on ebay, both used and new.
The price of the PDA appears OK, but I'm not familiar with the machine. It depends what else you wish to do with it really. Hope it helps.0 -
Beware of buying it from Ebay - Tom Tom use a very strict protection to prevent it being used on more than a very limited number of machines....Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

Didn't know that, thanks:T0

thank you for that guys.
i was just worried if the memory space was enough for the whole map of UK. i was also thinking of maybe putting some MP3 songs on it. but thats not all that important.
if there is a change or modification on the roads, how do i load that on the memory card, if it is already loaded on it?
is there a way of downloading the Tomtom 5 software on the interest?
will i able to but the software on the 128MB card, and then download that on my computer and re-load it on another memory card? or will that not be impossible becasue of their protection?
thank you for ur help guys.0 -
Treat yourself to a 1 Gig card - about £15 tops on eBay if you want to put additional maps, software or music on your PDA.
TomTom is rated as the best and I have had no problems using it.
Yes there is a way of downloading the software if you want to test it although I best not give out details on here as it's a bit of a dodgy way of getting it. Its not too much more expenisve than the PDA if you get a bundle anyway and you will need the GPS Reciver anyway unless the PDA has one built inWycombe Till I Die0 -
thank you,
yes, i was thinking of getting a 2GB memory card.... get the tomtom software, somehow and load it onto the card and buy the Mitac Mio P350 Digiwalker Pocket PC with Car Kit and use it all together.
is that possible? or am i seeing my hights too high?0 -
Not at all - its a piece of cake. The TomTom is just as easy to install as any PC application and the PDA can be accessed through "My Computer" - just like moving a file on your PCWycombe Till I Die0

 thats great news... thank you so much...
now... where can i buy the software from? just the software? and.. if there is a change to the uk maps, how would i update my PDA?0 -
eBay would be the best bet, if not https://www.froogle.co.uk is the best price comparison site. Maps are generally not updated in my experience, only when a new version of the software comes outWycombe Till I Die0

so, would be best if i just buy the tomtom software with the PDA, at the website i mentioned above? they sell the software on a pre-installed 128MB memory card. would that be my best way?0
