Quick question about websites.
Does anyone know a way of making a goodlooking directory style website thats quick and easy and doesn't involve paying a fortune.
Want to be able to offer a basic listing, a paid for premium listing and a have your own page on our site type thing.
Also want to be able to offer a choose which sort of listing you want and pay by paypal option and possibly the option of having space on premium listings to play and buy mp3 tracks.
Ok thats quite a Large ask but hoping there is a way somewhere out there.
Dh has been having a go at it with joomla as there are some great add ons but its so time consuming I was wondering if there was some off the peg kind of solution that we could customise.
Thanks
Jo

Basic answer NO, you trying to making a very complex site so there will be no easy way to build the structure.

I don't fully understand the purpose of your directory, is it to list businesses i.e similar to yell.com, the MP3 tracks has thrown me a little.

If its for business a lot of people won't pay for your premium listing until you prove it's good advertising so your SEO needs to be top notch.

As for having their own webpage on your site, I guess your talking about a webvert (simple 1 Page add, webpage style). You need to be very carfeul your hosting is upto the job as your going to be using a lot of space as your client list builds.
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.
  • If you have gotten Joomla up and running, let me recommend Mosets Tree - look it up in the Joomla.org extensions directory, it's running in Mosets Tree! It is a paid extension, but it does exactly what you seem to be looking for and lots more.

We run a directory site in it and are constantly amazed at it's ease of use and toolset.

maybe the OP is doing this for a specialised market?

I'm doing the same at the moment and it's coming along quite nicely. I'm using Joomla but developing my own component because the requirements are quite complex.

Hi , yes it would be for a specialised market. Not a massive money earner and quite localised but probably quite well used.
