in Cutting tax
I have a job that I'm putting down in the 'other income' box on my tax return, that earns under 2k a year, that I've always asumed was "casual labour" - but I don't know now?
I actually declared this job on a p90 form a few years ago and they didn't come back to me about it.
I don't have payslips/p60s so I can't put this under employed, and I don't have expenses so I don't think I can call it self-employed?
Is it ok to be putting "casual labour" in the other income box? Also, will I be needing to add details like my employers address?

This would be an employed position and your employer should be deducting tax. Did they give you a P46 when you started? if not, then you need to ask for one and sign to say this is not your only job. They will then deduct tax at basic rate from your pay, which will mean you pay the correct tax and never again have to self assess!£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

No, this has always been "cash in hand" and with a spoken contract. It doesn't earn enough by itself to pay tax, though I have another job(which is paye) and this year I'm self-employed as well for the first time, yippee, which is why I guess I have a tax return.
I do wonder if I go speak to them now and ask for a p60/whatever, what kind of response I'll get
Why aren't they doing this properly? I can't see what they are gaining, what extra they'd have to pay?0 -
It may well have always been cash in hand, but this is unlawful. If this was your only job, there would be no need to deduct tax, but in your case, tax has to be deducted.
You wont get a P60 because your employer wasn't deducting tax, but once he starts to do so, then you will get a P60 from this year onwards. I have no idea why they are not doing this correctly? Idleness is no excuse.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0 -

Does it though? With my 2 jobs and 2 self employed sole trader jobs all combined, I'm still not earning enough to pay tax.
Anyway, can anyone advise me how I deal with this right now? Shall I go ahead and put it in other income, or shall I attempt to put it in an employed section but with no paye number??0
