Total pay for TC will be minus something

Morning All!

This year I need to take off £3900 off my salary due to having 39 weeks off on mat leave.

I won't even have earned £3900 that by the time the Tax Credits have to be renewed so I'm a bit worried about I'm going to tell the Tax Credit Office.

Should I pre-warn them that it's going to be a minus figure or just leave it until April?

Thanks for any replies!

Why would you be taking off £3900
    *SIGH*
    :D
  • I thought you got to take off £100 for every week you are off on mat or pat leave? 39x£100 = £3900.

So what did you earn the other 13 weeks??? Are you saying your maternity pay was less than £100 per week? If so you dont take the £100 per week off.
  • I was only part time when I went off on leave, I would give you mt total pay to date but it's shockingly embaressing so I don't want to.

Well that's fine, if I don't have to take off the £100.00 for every week I can stop worrying!

    Thank you Karen!

It's for smp only and I'm assuming all your 39 weeks fell in the same tax year (not usual, but not uncommon either)?

You would only count the amount over £100 (ie the excess). In effect you discount the first £100 per week. If there's less than £100 pw of smp, then you just don't count any of it as there is no excess.

If you did get less than £100 pw, it'll be easy when you get your p60....it'll list statutory payments and you take this amount off the p60 total (assuming you weren't on statutory sick pay or any other statutory payments).

I went off on hols (company 'asked' me to do that) from the middle of April then my mat leave started a week or two into May.

So basically, all I need to do is tell them what's on my p60 and that's it? :)

I'm not sure why I was worried about it, being in the minus seemed really bizzare...feel like a fool for not knowing that I didn't take the £100 off if mat leave was under £100 a week :o

No need to feel like a fool.....fools are the people who don't ask, and never know the answer because of it! What you do (since you got less than £100 pw) is take the statutory payments amount on your p60 away from the total for year box on your p60.

    :)

    Thank you Dreamerv!

Another quick question for you then...

My company messed up my last payslip. It's the first time that it happened but they won't issue me with a new one as the amount that went into my bank account was right but my payslip showed an extra £90 and a few pence.

Do I keep asking them for a new payslip to keep my p60 right or do I take off the £90 when I get my p60?

I *think* the payslips are just from the company...but the p60 is seen by both the tax office people and made by the company. I would hope that if they gave you the right amount but just wrote it wrong....that the p60 will account for the real amount, not what was on the payslip. I would however be insistent on a correct payslip. Indeed, I'm doing the same with my company (incidentally my employer are HMRC)...although my amounts are right, some of the info on my payslip is wrong, and I do not want wrong info on statements I keep for my own information. I'd insist on a correct payslip. I would also keep all your payslips of the tax year, so you can check your p60 is correct at the end of the year. If you've mislaid any, I'd ask the company for copies of all of them.

Yeah I got the right amount, the financial controller said that it was a strange error to have made as the payslips are printed after the pay is decided.

I keep all my payslips. I have to go into work this afternoon to see the payroll woman so will insist on a new one when I see her!

You've been really helpful, thank you for all your replies! :A
