wanted macbook pro and iphone, but is it a good time to buy with updates in the horizon.

i.e. iphone 3gs, there might be a new operating system update or rumours has is that the new version to replace it will be in the summer. issue here is, i don't mind the 3gs but it's being locked on a 24 month contract which is the most likley choice of purchase.

also macbook pro 13" base model is surely due an update with the white macbook cheaper with say a bigger hard drive. also what's the likely hood of ilife10 or something. being the main computer and will own for 4-5 use, i want it as upto date as possible upon purchase.

but will prices of new iphone and MBP increase, so just bite the bullet and buy now?

  • There are always updates on the horizon with Apple, so eventually you will just have to bite the bullet if you really want to get them! :)

Anything new will be just as expensive as what's on sale just now, but it is rumoured that the Macbook Pros will be getting a processor update soon so you might want to hang on for a bit.

I haven't heard about any hardware updates for the iPhones, but any software updates will be available to you no matter when you buy. If you're worried about being locked in to a long contract you could go buy PAYG, or go with Tesco (shortest contract at 12 months) or wait for them to come to the 3 network (sometime this year), who will have offerings as yet unkown. However the pricing of the handsets themselves will probably remain fairly stable, as that is set by Apple.
  • This is a handy resource for this - tells you where in the product cycle certain products are and whether an update is likely.
