scrape back until you get to a solid bit of paint if poss , you may find that as the walls have had no mist coat that it will all come off , once you have done this feather the edges with some fine filler and sand down - then put a mist coat the paint as required

Errrrr, I didn't get to any solid bits of paint, except on the pipes!!!! It peeled off the wall as if you were starring in a super dooper wall paper stripper advert. I pulled a small bit from the wall...... it ended up pulling a foot wide strip across the whole of the ceiling!!! :)

See THIS thread for information (post #25 onwards) about why paint peels and how to remedy it.

    Cheers

I'd say mine was 100% due to a lack of mist coat!!! You mention using oil based undercoat, would that be if I hadn't managed to get it back to the bare plaster?? :)
  • I have Albany trade for the maincoat, opinions on quality gratefully received. If I'm unable to get some B&Q paint for the mist coat, ;) what are the ratios of water to paint assuming I've 'borrowed' some Dulux emulsion from my Dads shed? Would you recommend a thin mist coat, then a thicker one before starting painting as if I already had lovely smooth prepped walls! If that makes any sense?
Thanks everyone for all of your input! Much appreciated. :T

Albany is fine. Don't worry about Bargain and Qick branded stuff for the mist coat. If the Albany is matt you can use that. Just thin it about 20/30 water 80/70 paint for the mist coat, then 10/90 for the second coat then neat for the third. If the old Dulux is Rich Matt don't bother - it won't stick If its silk bother even less!

if that's the case , it may pay you to strip it all off - depends how far you want to go , or are you are just doing a cosmetic job
  • Oops!!! Look so pity. Try to use metallic paint. Your kitchen will be more shining and attractive.

    Thanks

Just a suggestion, but perhaps you should spend some time finding more suitable places for your rod. Maybe you'll catch something nice! Stay away from the trout though!! :D
