Son just starting process to go to AFC Harrogate in sept !!

Hi everyone
My son has just applied to go to AFC Harrogate, just wondered if anyone has any experience of the whole process and what happens now ? He is 16 and leaves school this summer , most of his life he has wanted to join the Army .I thought when he was little he would grow out of it ... but here we are all these years later and he has sent in his application  I have mixed feelings I'm glad he has such drive and ambition but also worried at the same time , if anyone has any info i would be more than grateful thank you

  • My son went to AFC Harrogate when he justed turned 16 back in 2003 and he loved it there. We were made very welcome by the staff that worked there and were involved in things that my son did. His passing out day from there was a day I will never forget. It was wonderful. Your son will have a great time there and it is a great start to Army life, my son made some great friends there also. I have nothin but praise for the place and it's staff.
I hope that he enjoys his time there and be assured you will miss him more than he will you. They have such a busy and enjoyable time there. lol

I can only second having a read of the parents thread linked to above, and either asking questions there or on http://www.rearparty.co.uk the sister site for friends and families. The main site can be a bit ''robust'' at times but is much busier.
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

  • i have personaly been there for in phase one training and it is the best place for army training in the north. i spent one year in waterloo company and the staff there are all seconed to none i am sure your son will love it as there is a multitude of activities to keep people busy there. The only thing i didnt like while there was that i mass my family too much. but all in all its a good training grounds and good staff there. and good luck to your son on getting in there.
