I have been using Office 2003 but do not want to pay for the upgrade to Office 2007 and wondered whether it was time to change anyway. However I do have a LOT of files Excel, Word and Publisher and wonder if they will all open with OpeneOffice?

Yes they will but why not just stick with Office 2003 as that is what you know.0

I have a feeling when we bought the PC (well tower only) it came with the software which was was not genuine. The supplier has long since gone and the Discs he supplied looked OK but now think they weren't. It cost me £680 for the tower and software which at the time seemed a very full price.
I have tried a demo of Office 2007 and it just seems over complex for my now simple needs and I have started worrying about the 2003 version as that is how I am.
Thank you for getting back to me so soon.0 -
OpenOffice will take some getting used too.0

Open office is a much more natural transition from office 2003 than office 2007.
However, only you can see if it suits your needs. Download it and try it for yourself, then you can decide if you want / need to keep 2003.2014 running challenge 471.95 km / 1000 km.0 -
Butting in!
I'm on Office 2000 which would not work with Win7. Is OPen Office compatible with 64bit?
Reminder Office 2007 files have a docx extension, so that unless you save as an earlier version any recipient of your file without 2007 will have to install an addon.0 -
OO will run on 64bit, but as a 32bit application. There is not (yet) a native 64 bit incarnation.
Open office will also save in it's native extensions, rather than the 'standard' .doc / .xls etc but you can change this to be default if you wish.2014 running challenge 471.95 km / 1000 km.0 -
the only problem I've ever had with it is issues opening some office documents that were password protected, doesn;t seem able to decodde them when given the correct p/w (unless I'm misssing some kind of plug in for that)0
