traveling to london

There is no way I'd take a car anywhere near London! Train is the only way if you want to avoid stress, traffic jams and misery. I wish I could get to London for £30!0

Driving to Cambridge is bad enough. I'm assuming the OP is from up north since they are inexperience with London.
First of all you have the A14 which is a horrible road at the best of times. You have two truvelo cameras (which are signposted about half a mile before, but you still get idiots tailgating you through them, or slamming on in front of you) then you have that stupid roundabout where you have to turn right to stay on the A14, then the huge SPECS camera zone causing more idiocy and poor driving. Cambridge itself is full of suicidal cyclists, be on the lookout for the one bike that actually has lights on it at night. You wont see the light because the rider will be wearing a huge rucksack that covers it anyway.
The worst thing about the A14 though, once you get on it heading for Cambridge, none of the road signs actually mention Cambridge until you're almost on top of it, unless you have satnav you will be worrying that you've gone the wrong way for about an hour.
Despite all this, it's still got to be better than public transport.

As for getting into London. There's a few residential streets near Zone 4 tube stations that are free to park in on Sundays which is what I always do. Oh and it's almost always cheaper to buy a travelcard than individual tickets, lets you potter around London for free too.0 -

What journey is the £30pp train fare for?
Will you be wanting to leave your luggage somewhere in London?
Yeah im from up north so first time near london, been to cambridge once before. So on the journey back thought why not go to london
and the £30 i quoted was from cambridge-london-cambridge
From reading on here i think im going to park up in zone 4 at south woodford then get central tube to oxford circus then take it from there0 -
I always do what you are planning to do. I drive down from milton keynes to Brent Cross. I then park in a residential street just down the road from the tube station. Costs me about £6 for the tube all day and don't need to worry about spending £7 an hour on parking.
I love going to London for work though. We have an office in the BDC in Islington and the parking costs £6.90 an hour. I'm normally there for about 6 hours. £41 on parking, all paid for by workThis is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -
I used to live in Impington (village on the A14) there used to be a bus from trumpington park and ride that stopped on the south bank. may be worth a try to see if it still runs0

An off-peak travelcard from Cambridge to London Zone 1 is £26.50 - that's for the return train fare and includes a travel card that allows you to use the tubes & buses (same as the one quoted for £6.30)
Depending which time train you get, its between 48 min & 1 hour 25 mins into Kings X.Not even wrong0 -
What dates are you talking?0

Residents of London aged over 60 can apply for a freedom pass which gives them free travel in London with few if any restrictions.
Non-London residents are not eligible and pay normal fares
Holders of bus passes from English local authorities can travel free in London - but on buses only. (Not sure about trams - definitely not the tube)0 -
sunday 7th february and itll be cheaper parking at a tube station and getting the 6.30 ticket rather than £26 each.0
