Broken Ipod dock from Currys no reciept....

HI,

I was given a Logik alarm clock / Ipod dock speaker thingy for xmas and tonight one of the plastic parts on the docking bit has snapped so it doesnt charge the ipod or connect to play using the speakers.

I don't have the reciept and have no way of getting it (the guy that gave it to me dumped me at the weekend! Brilliant timing!)

Will I be able to take it in to store for an exchange (still have original box and packaging) or is this now to be confined to the bin?!

I'm hoping I can change it but I know it's possibly quite cheeky to ask if I don't have the reciept!!

Thanks in advance

Currys would need to find the actual purchase of your iPod dock on their systems before they could offer an exchange.
The store colleagues are powerless to use their discretion in these matters. If you cannot give them some sort of evidence such as date and time of purchase, then they cannot be sure that any transaction on their screen is actually yours. If they just guess it might be yours, and do an exchange then they could be facing a gross misconduct proceeding.

If, for example, they exchanged it for you on someone else's receipt details then that person brought their receipt in for an exchange. The person who did the exchange would be investigated and could lose their job.

I know that was a lengthy explanation but it may help you if you know which day he bought it or something!

If you get no joy in store, phone their customer services. In some cases, especially with Logik and other DSGi branded products, they might be able to help.
  • Thanks for your quick reply!! I've no way of knowing when he bought it and as we are now not speaking I'm not going to be able to ask!!

Will definately give them a call though, they might hopefully be able to repair it! I never thought to ring them! It probably would've just ended up in the bin!!

    Thanks again for your help!

They will certainly not be able to repair it under warranty, these products only have an exchange warranty.

Booking it in for a chargeable repair would definitely exceed the cost of the product itself.

Im sure I have loads of those plastic inserts for different kinds of ipods somewhere if thats what you mean? (the bits that slot into the charging thingy.) If you dont get any joy let me know what kind it is and I can maybe send you one of the spare ones I have. I wont use them in any case. Will have to find them first of course but will attempt to if you need one.

As you didn't buy it, therefore not the consumer, there's little you can do other than trying to get it sorted via any manufacturers warranty you may have with it.
  • It sounds like it's going to be easier to call Logik about this one.

    Logik is Currys own make.
