and Ive read somewhere that your water provider may have some liability on houses built before 1937, but not sure if this includes lead waste pipes. (Yorkshire water in our case).
Its your sewerage authority (which could be the same as your water provider) and it relates to at what point a private sewer becomes a public sewer in pre 1937 properties. Normally where two properties drains join together. The lead waste is yours.

Agree with the others a temporary fix is a screw inserted in the hole just far enough to reduce the leak to a minimum. Replace asap.

    Cheers

The pipe is very awkward to get to, we have to climb into a tiny cupboard then crawl along to the leaks, looking at some info tonight one suggestion is electrictians tape to put around the pipe, trouble is the pipe is so close to the ground and has pipes very close to it on either side, that you cannot pass the tape round and round the pipe to get a nice secure fit.

Theres always a way to wrap in Denso, Chisel between pipes?

A Plumbers going to have to cut it out and replace anyway so a couple of dents aint going to make a difference

A Good plumer would be able to weld the two little holes, thus leaving the lead pipes in place to last another 100 years +

A bad one would blow a hole in it the size of a golf ball whilst trying the repair.

I'd go for a plumber in this instance. A plumer might not be up to it!

I was amazed to learn that anyone still had lead piping in this day and age. I would have thought that it would all have been stolen years ago.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
  • What about a brass screw? That shouldn't react?

And perhaps it's still there because it was a @£$%%%£ to nick from that cupboard!
