Being made redundant - mortgage query

I have posted this on MFW Forum but thought may be someone here would know
I have been told that there would be redundancies in the department.
Do I need to tell my mortgage provider about this?
I was thinking of contacting them for increasing the mortgage term as my mortgage term is 12 years and I could reduce the monthly payment this way if I don't get a job soon
But can my mortgage provider change my product as I am a risky custmer now. I am on a very good deal atm
Thanks
MQ
