New Bank Account
Hi, I have just sent through my details to CCCSVA for getting started on an IVA and I need to get a new bank account set up asap. I am now worried as I have missed payments etc that a new bank won't let me set up a bank account due to poor credit history etc and was wondering whether there are any banks that are good to go to if you're in this situation? Any advice gratefully receieved.

Im with Nationwide, in a flexaccount, ive got a cashcard, but no debit card. I think you will be ok with most accounts - as long as you dont try for one with an overdraft or any form of credit. (but you can get pre-pay credit cards if you need one)Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup0

You usually find that the building societies are a little easier to open account with ... Nationwide (as Trudij says) are a good choice providing you don't already have liabilities with them ... again just to reiterate what Trudi said - as long as you don't ask for any credit facilities there shouldn't be a problem ... you wouldn't be allowed them in an IVA anyways nor do you WANT them
I think there is an online account that you might be able to set up - SMILE?!
And if all else fails you could always try a post office account - you're just looking for somewhere to have your wages paid into and a cash card that you can access this money ... basic step account kind of thing ...
That's right - you've got those pre-paid credit cards now, think Phones 4 U do a good one with no admin fee on them ... some of those crafty companies charge you for the privilege of having it - so you're £10 top up suddenly becomes £9 (don't like that!)0 -
Open a premier plus account at coop (standard). They did a very cursory check and we have a proper debit card but obviosuly you can't use any od fascility. Far better than the cash coop account.0

Thanks. I stupidly tried to open a HSBC one online last night but they are going to get back to (with what answer I wonder......) but will definitely try the Co-op one with debit card but no OD as this looks like just what I am after.
Thanks again

Nationwide now ask on their application forms about IVA's
I went to Abbey National for one of their basic accounts. I told them what was happening but they were happy to open one for me. D/D, S/O's, cash card. Dont need anything else. If you fin you are needing a VISA etc, go for one of the pre-paid ones, no credit checks and can not spend what you dont have. I wish I had done all of this 20 years ago when I started work, would not be in the situation now :-)There are 10 kinds of people that understand binary
Those that do
Those that dont

some of these cards do not have chip/pin which is a sod to use. if a prob try STANDARD TRUST BANK on line they do no credit check just voters role they charge 12.50 p.m. but no bounced transaction costs so it could be cheaper if you're not a weekly bean counter. you can do on line banking too i think there's others that do these too. prob with co op is not enough braches prob the best of the bunch tho.0

Hi everyone, just to let you know we have been accepted by HSBC (got the letter this morning) so fingers crossed we can open this bank account ready for the IVA.
Thanks for all your advice.
