BrionaIf I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.0 -
Proc , I dont want to get into an argument with you because you clearly have an opinion from what you have read from my original post. I would ask where I have stated that I have ever sent off my CV let alone multiple CVs? I dont know why you have chosen to reply in such an unhelpful way but I suppose that is your right. I have been on MSE for a while now and you are the only person who has ever been unhelpful or worse objectionable.
Just why is it you have formed this opinion of me and remind me where I have mentioned the CV??
So what do you do when you see a job you like? Do you send of your CV? Or do you call the agency who will then send your CV? Or do you send your CV off directly? Or do you just sit there gawping at the advert or something?0 -
Proc, you are as I said earlier an idiot. What I do is ring them up and ask for an application form or fill one in online. You seem to have an obsession with CVs and I have never once mentioned a CV. Why do you bother coming on here to insult people. I am lucky in that I dont actually need a job financially but need something for my sanity a lot of people on here are in a far worse position than me and who need work to feed their families. To get a reply like yours intimating that they need to take a shower and get out is frankly an insult and you should be ashamed.0

I am in a similar position wanting short term or part time later this year rather than a full tme "normal" job.
Not started full research yet.
I think a lot of companies fill short term needs via agencies rather than the normal job add route.
Specialist areas will likely be contractor based or interim roles again often indirect.
Have you considered the Cenus jobs these are full time but short term.
https://ig11.i-grasp.com/fe/tpl_census01.asp?newms=info1
Another route may be via volunteer work where there are paid jobs as well tat will get filled without being advertised.

Mant thanks Getmore4less, I did look at the census jobs but the short term nature and the fact that they dont start till April/May put me off a little. I will have a look at the the volunteering sites, once again thanks for your help0

Allthough short term you can try to link a few together to take you into 2011.
I think these jobs be good for networking, loads of contacts with other organisations with some positions0 -
try these too-
page personnel (previously aka..?)
hays
reed.co.uk - upload cv, employers can search for keywords.
gumtree- rather spammy, but some are interesting.
the nhs one is good if into that sort of career- you create a profile in stages, which can be tweeked whe you apply for any job, without having to re enter all your details again!
also local colleges, universities, councils, and national firms- aldi, tesco etc have job sections, usually linked from main page..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
For council jobs http://www.lgjobs.com/ is good, has jobs listed by council so easy to navigate."It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice." :T0

I use www.indeed.co.uk0

How about take a shower, put on some smart clothes, and actually leave the house to approach businesses and shops. Walk in, ask to speak to a manager, just explain that you're local, looking for work, this place appeals to you because of x, y &z, do you have any jobs going Mr Manager?
How many other clowns do you think are sat around uploading average CVs onto the same jobs time and time again? With the current market you need to be pro-active. Clicking "Submit CV" does not equate to actively looking for work.
Every job I've ever had has been sourced via the internet...even if my application has been followed up by phoning/visiting someone in person. And I've always found work quite easily. Most companies, aside from the smallest of the small, have online application forms, where you actually fill in a proper form, rather than just bombarding them with spec CVs, to be used immediately, or saved on file.
I used to work in a small chain of shops, the type of place where you'd expect people to pop in from time to time and ask for jobs (and they often did), but we got a much better response from the company website, or the jobcentre website.
My current company doesn't accept written applications (on paper), recruitment is outsourced to agencies, and anyone who approached our workplace in person looking for jobs would be met with confusion...and wouldn't get past reception, for security reasons.
I don't really believe this "70% of jobs aren't advertised" mullarkey. Any employer that really needs a vacancy to be filled will be taking advantage of the many free options available - i.e. JC+, company website, and a notice in the window (especially in the case of shops).£1 / 50p 2011 holiday flight + hotel expenses = £98.50/£600
HSBC 8% 12mth regular savings = £80 out of a maximum remaining allowance of £2500
"3 months' salary" reserve = £00 / £3600 :eek:0
