I liked the choc mint chewing gum too (tho I NEVER normally chew gum, and thought this sounded disgusting till I tried it and it worked) Trident used to do one but it's been discontinued (I rang them and asked). Does anyone know of any other make ?

I've come to the conclusion that there simply IS no substitute, tho I sometimes try Options hot choc drink with some small success.

In the end I just decided to buy those packs of tiny choc bars (any make really - tho Lidl do good ones) and ration myself to one a day. That works if you have any will-power, which sometimes I don't !

My worst time for chocolate munching is in evening curdled up on sofa in a fleecy blanket. I know what OP means when if you have one bar of chocolate coz you fancy one, you end up wanting about 3 more.

I find Clipper hot chocolate is great, it's not sold as low fat but has significantly less fat per 100grams than all the low fat ones and without a ton of extra sugar than some low fat ones have. I have it with hot water as well instead of milk. It tastes great and is quite filling so I don't usually feel the need to munch some chocolate after. Also once I'm snuggled in my fleece it becomes too much effort to throw it off and go to kitchen for eats
There is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion

I try and keep a bar of chocolate in the fridge all the time. Because it's there I'm not bothered about it. However, if I have 'THE CRAVING' and none in the house, I'll drive miles to get some. Talk about a chocaholic! :o
It must be a phsycological thing in that if it's readily available I don't crave it!

Ditto :D Thats why I want to replace chocolate alltogether with something more healthy hence my original suggestion of chocolate milk shake and choccy flavour sauce drizzle. Eating lower fat or dark chocolate is still eating chocolate so not an alternative ;)

Thanks for all the suggestions Im off to get some fruit & nut salad (apple, banana, orange and mixed chopped nuts) drizzled with choccy sauce to munch on! Yummm :)

I'm really strange as I don't like chocolate flavoured things...ice cream, cake, hot chocolate...I wouldn't eat any of those. Just give me a lovely big bar of cold Galaxy! Aaaaah Heaven!:A

I wouldn't necessarily consider chocolate sauce to be more healthy, given that most commercial ones are based on sugar syrup, but each to their own I suppose! Hope you enjoy your fruit salad. ;)

  • Try as I might I have to have my chocolate that is my treat at the end of the day - I either have a couple of Jaffa cakes cos they are low in fat or a small pkt of chocolate buttons which I suck to death and savour!:rotfl:

jeez - you all sound like junkies! go back and read posts! when you start mugging old ladies for their cadburys dairy milk bars - worry!
going to sound like old record now - you are addicted - but, i dont think its to chocolate - (have to be careful what i say now or could be sued), most british bars of chocolate contain less than 50% cocoa. most of it is milk solids (dont ask - you dont want to know) and sugars. and these my friends - are what you are addicted to! the sugars give you a high and if you are at all milk intolerant - you will CRAVE it! it smells like chocolate - but try the real stuff - bet you wont like the taste! in which case its worth getting allergy tested.
you crave the stuff - it smells good and you feel so good when you are eating it -afterwards - well, you hate yourselves. ADDICTION isnt nice is it?
cold turkey for a few days - then see if you gobble a bar of real chocolate above 70% cocoa. if you cant - then its the dairy and sugar, and you may consider cutting them out - which will cut out your craving for choccy bars too!

Yes but I drizzle a lot less than I would eat in comparisson to squares or slabs of chocolate as its quite sickly sweet if theres too much. Actually I think I will cut out the choccy sauce as well as I have almost gone cold turkey anyway other than 1 night a week which I stick to and have a small bar and suck it slowly. As a rule there are no munchies in our house anymore and hubby wont go to the shop however hard I pester which is the best alternative to chocolate I have just realized for me. The word itself in any context is a very bad rude word in our house this year and it doesnt get mentioned much without a forfeit! Usualy an exercise bonus!!!! :j :T
