IVA complete today!

Hi all,

Need a bit of advice.

I have had my completion certificate for my IVA today:T after settling this 2 months early out of my redundancy payment (my IP contacted my main creditor who were happy for me to keep the remainder to live on as I don't have a job:().

Anyhow to the point...

The letter from my IP advises me to send a copy of my compliance certificate to Experian, Equifax and Callcredit (have already read the sticky about Callcredit). Then 1 month later obtain a copy of my credit rpt to make sure these have been updated. If not, they attached the details of the creditors I need to write to to request that they get this changed.

Having read some of the valuable information on this forum, they suggest getting a copy of my file first?!!

I would be grateful if anyone could advise me on the following:-

1. When is best to get my credit file?
2. Do I have to get my file from all 3 companies?
3. If there are any anomalies on say 2 out of 3, do I have to write to each of them for the corrections to be made (I would use the great template on that sticky).

Sorry if I am going on a bit, but I can't actually believe that my IVA is over and I am paranoid that someone is going to turn around and ask for more money!!

Cheers
C

  • First of all well done on getting through your IVA. Its a great feeling, but there is a little more work for you to do.

I finished mine in July 09 and have JUST got the info on my credit reports up to date. The reason for this is because companies register inaccurate info. The reason for this seems to be when THEY seem to register any initial default, as opposed to the IVA commecnement date, or even dates that make no sense to me.

    In answer to your queries......

    1. Get your files ASAP as it can take months to get the info sorted out. In theory you send the letters and they have 28 days to update all 3 agencies. In reality the Information Commisioners Office has no punitive powers so this can (and does) take longer. You can chase it up and it will take time between the different companies. Stick with it and dont get fobbed off. Egg showed my Default date as the the finalisation date in July 09, so keep checking afterwards. I did and thats how I found out after Egg said they had sorted it out (incorrectly).

    2. Get all 3 because you never know what each is showing. Different companies use a mix of the 3 so it is vital the info is accurate.

    3. U SHOULD (famous last words) send the template letter to each creditor requiring them to update all 3 CRA's. I monitored this by paying for Experian on a monthly basis and only then got the other 2 reports from the other companies when it looked in order on Experian. That way I had a monitored comparison to make sure that it SHOULD have been done. This way I was able to see how Egg had messed up despite saying it had been sorted out.

I hope this is helpful to you.

Start this with a cynical mind as you may well (I was) be told its in hand/ its being done/ it has been done etc, but they do drag their heels. I have been bounced around within companies on the telephone for ages until I have found the correct person on the right team. ***Get a direct dial number for them*** Many will say they cannot give the number, or its internal access only.........until you start talking about an Executive Complaint or your Local MP. Its amazing how they will finalise matters quicker when you deal with the same named person!!

Again, well done on your IVA. Hope its a good road for you from here onwards.

  • Hi Happychappy,

Thanks for that information it really helps, I'll probably sign up to Experian Monitoring tomorrow.

No doubt I'll be back on here at a later date tearing my hair out because I can't get answers etc...

Yes, it is a great feeling and has taught me a very hard lesson that I never ever want to be in any debt ever again!

    Cheers

  • Well Done RaceyLacey :) - time to celebrate indeed!

Good Luck with the phone calls but listen you've done the hard bit and you ARE now DEBT FREE so just enjoy it. Don't panic.

The IVA is complete - it was a legal document and although some people might call you asking for money (unlikely, but then there are chancers out there) - let them scream til they're blue in the face - you know (as will they) that you don't owe them a PENNY!

You have your completion certificate and that's that! Call Experian and the likes, do what needs doing but most importantly just enjoy being debt free.
