Laminate fitting

We have had a quote for laminate flooring in our downstairs from Carpetright. The cost to fit is £470 which is £10 per sq metre and they are confident this will only take 1 day. Is this a reasonable price or is it worth buying the laminate and getting someone independent?

Hi,
For a large, flat area (I'm gathering your rooms total 47 m2...which is 56.2 yd2), around £8-10 per square metre is around the norm, dependent on its degree of difficulty.
I would, however, recommend you shop around for the actual flooring and accessories though: Carpetright tend to be more expensive than most on the products themselves.Profit=sanity

it all depends on the quality of the laminate.
i know a shop near me that charges approx 600 quid per room. but thats using Pergo etc...Get some gorm.0 -
that seems excessive to me!
i got a local shop to supply and fit Quickstep for approx £1300 - its was about 46sqm.
When i saw the quote sheet, he only charged me £280 for the fitting, which is half what carpet right is charging you!!!0 -

We had laminate throughout our old house and I'm pretty sure it was carpetright that did it. They didn't use their own fitters, but sub-contracted the work to local guys. They did the whole house in a day and I don't think they did a particularly good job.
In our new house we wanted to laminate one room and decided to do it ourselves. We got the laminate out of B&Q and I thought the quality was better and the price much lower. We did a neater job of fitting it simply because we took our time.
Not suggesting you fit it yourself if you're not inclinded to do so, but I would say find a recommended joiner and get a quote from them. You could well get a much better job at a lower price.0
