Unfortunately I don't have my paperwork to hand so I don't know which office to pay. Is there are geographical logic behind this or way of working out which I am supposed to make a payment to? And what are the consequences of submiting a payment to the wrong one, is a fine likely?
The helpline was unsurprisingly very busy all evening so if anyone has a definitive answer I would be grateful for your advice.

The information does appear on the reverse of your payment slip, but this thread says that you can choose either - just be sure to put the reference in:

in my experience, roughly) if when you first registered for SA u lived north of the midlands & in Scotland you pay to Cumbernauld. NI, Wales, Midlands & below are Shipley.0

Presumably you're doing it online. I'm sure when I did it I just gave my bank details and they took it automatically. Would this not work for you? I didn't have to decide where to send it at all, it was just part of the form.

Not this year, for some reason you are given a choice and referred to your payslip. I went for Shipley and having read the other thread am now not concerned that it may be a problem.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
