I am limited on space for my next trip and wondered if anyone had experience of this lens Tamron AF 18-270mm
I have a Canon EOS. At the moment I swap between two lenses, wide angle/macro and long distance, but for ease and portability I am looking for an all in one lens.

Goodness that's a lot of reach in one lens.. they people in the review seem to like it0

I would say it depends on where you are travelling and the types of pictures you want to take. I'm predicting that you're going to say "a bit of everything" because in that case i would suggest you rent a lens instead of buying. You can get an official canon 18-200mm IS lens from lenses for hire for £34 for 7 days which is a great lens and good value. Perfect if you just want it for travelling and then not really use it much when you get back as you have your other lenses.0

I have a Nikon 18-200 (obviously not an option for you) and it is great I very rarely swap to anything else. If you want to capture your trip in all its glory quickly rather than take photos for art or sale go for this type of lens. While you are faffing with different lenses the moment my pass or you might get a all sorts of muck in the camera.0

I have been looking at more lens options and would like your opinions.
Sigma 18-200mm DC-f/3.5-6.3 DC OS Lens (Canon)
Canon 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 USM Lens
Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS
I noticed link No2 is an AF fitting. Also I know nothing about Sigma lenses.

It depends on your budget as the canon 18-200mm IS is obviously the best one but is the most expensive. Also if you're going to be using the long end of the zoom a lot then IS/OS will make a difference in reducing blur.0

I would imagine with such a reach that there are compromises to the lens speed0

You need to remember if you use a EF lense on a digital SLR then you need to multiply the focal length by 1.6 so 18-270 becomes 28.8-432mmIT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

I have just checked, all my other lenses. My DSLR lenses are all EF-S USM and my SLR lenses are EF too. So that will rule out option 2 I think.
I know nothing about Sigma lenses as I have always had Canon lenses. Both have image stabilizer so it's just performance comparisons I need to find now.
Then I'll consider price.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........
