I've just tried to remove power dvd and NTIfileCD which came on my acer pc. Power dvd was a trial offer and has expired, and nti's not used.
when i try to uninstall i get the message that an installation report file could not be installed and system cannot find the file specified.
Is there a free file recovery program i can use,or will it be easier to do a system restore to the very beginning.??
I have the disk i made as advised when i first got the pc--would that work??-Any advice please,i don't want to screw it up completely.

Are you trying to uninstall these permanently?
If the installed file is missing, you can usually delete the c:\program files\xxxx directory and use https://www.ccleaner.com to clean up the registry. Try using ccleaner, tools, uninstall first..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

What i would really like to do is restore all the files etc which were on the pc originally, and then i'll leave it alone !:o0 -
Do you have the install disks? Just install it again. Then uninstall again.
tbh an unclean uninstall can be tricky to sort, often you need to get in there manually to clear up, but there are software progs that can help. I tend to just forget about stuff, I end up having to reistall windows from time to time anyway but thats cos I like to tinker a little too much

I've only got the recovery disk burned when the pc was new, would that do? XP was pre- installed.0 -

That's probably the operating system, windows xp is supposed to offer people the option of burning a copy off.
Why not look into building yourself a slip streamed copy of xp:

HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0
