I've been following these instructions to install the IIS Server on XP home.
http://adamv.com/dev/articles/iis-on-xp-home/
But I'm getting a "you are not authorized to view this page" when i try opening
http://localhost/default.htm
anybody went through this process successfully?
seems to be something to do with xp profile names and passwords.

Officially yes. But you can install to xp home too - not tried it though.
Do windows security updates to IIS work?
Sounds like a permissions error, not directory browsing as hes using default.htm.
Open the security tab and check you settings. Probably want anonymous logon enabled and integrated windows authentication.0 -
nah if directory browsing isn't enabled you will get forbidden error etc.
"Probably want anonymous logon enabled and integrated windows authentication" will make no difference this is just for login prompt settings ;o0 -
Got it going.
Went through the entire process again and it worked this time.
Not sure where I went wrong first time.0
