    - just turn off UAC, I do and I've never had a prob, make sure your running MSE it's free from Microsoft, has a small footprint and is light on CPU cycles.

    Just also want to add I have not had one bug in vista to my knowledge, cant compare it to windows 7 as I have never used it. I have been using windows since 3.11 and the worst one to my memery was 98 omg how many blue screens of death! (BSOD)

    If only that would of stopped it, SE was better but still got that BSOD. Oh well onwards and upwards roll on Windows 8 so we can all moan about windows 7 and complain that MS are just screwing us for more money

  • Thanks Niv, I well remember v3.11, I was a uni tutor at the time and had 36 standalone with [at the time] massive one meg 'hard cards' which were cheaper than hard drives.

    Floppies at that time were 7" bits of plastic inside a cardboard sleeve - that was the absolute leading edge stuff and knocked the BBBC Model B out of British schooling.

    Sure trhey weren't 5 1/4 inch floppies Richie? That's what preceded 3 1/2" floppies. They were certainly what we used on the old DOS PC-XTs we used before Windows came along.

    Mind you back in my mainframe days we did use some 8" (I think) floppies.

    Yes they were used for the microcode on some early mainframes and were still in use for the 3274 (if I remember the number correctly) controllers for a long while - certainly into the 1990s.
