We went about 6 years ago, and we found it ok, although there isn't a lot to do in the immediate area surrounding it, but this might interest you:

The beach is at the bottom of the site, and we found it to be strewn with rubbish, including glass, so it wasn't suitable for a no shoe approach. The entertainment was of a typical Haven standard, and not too bad actually. The staff were actually very good, but bear in mind this was a few years ago.
If you can afford it, take the ferry over to Arran. We didn't, but I do regret it to this day as it is a stunning place. I'm sure you can go as a foot passenger then hire a bike, but if I'm wrong, then someone will correct me.

Would we go back again?
No. And the reason is, it was a 5/6 hour drive for us, but what I can tell you, we did go to other Haven sites as a result of it.That's my mutt in the picture above.0 -
I stayed there in July 2007, but we just used it was a base and went out for the days. I took the dogs to the beach there, but it wasn't a really good beach as it was full of rubbish and junk, not good. The caravan I stayed in was very clean and had everything I needed. I agree with the above poster, Isle of Arran is definetely worth a visit, I really liked it when I visited. It was amazing though as on the "mainland" there was a thunder storm that day and you could watch it from the Isle of Arran, very different but interesting. It's nicknamed Scotland in Miniature and you can see why if you visited there with mountains etc
We took our car over the on ferry and drove around for a day, not enough, but just enough to get a feel I guess of the place?

hi thanks for that.
i have to admit i do check trip advisor abit but i do tend to find that alot of the reviews seem negative no matter which hotel you are searching...i think people like to use it as a place to vent and moan...even if its just something small lol.
guess we'll just have to wait and see lol. as its already booked lol.0 -
I do agree with you there, some people do like to moan on holiday reviews don't they? We used to go there for the day when I was a kid - that's when it was Butlins!! Many many years ago. Don't know what it's like now though.
However, something fun to do with kids (big or little) if you have a car, is visit this:

we've been a few times, but stopped going as the standard of caravan kept dropping, even though we always booked gold.
The heads of ayr farm park is at the top of the hill, next door to the caravan park. It is big with plenty entertainment, it will certainly keep the kids amused.
Ayr has a nice indoor play area called Pirate Pete's, in the old ballroom I think, google it to see, passed a wet afternoon there.
Loudon Castle is close by, use Tesco vouchers to get cheap ticket entry, there's plenty of rides to suit all ages. Check opening times before you go, some times of year it is only open on weekends iirc.
Have a great holiday, the weather can be stunning here in Scotland in May, but pack for all eventualities and you won't go far wrong.:DMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Hi - we stayed there 2 years ago, loved it. Became National Trust members and used the bvan as a base as we toured the sights. Found a wonderful old castle with a private beach, cant recal the name, but am sure it will be listed. Lovley staff and good facilites for kids. Will got here again next year, trying AllHallows in Kent this time.0

animal farm was closed and it was very cold. but because the other half thinks he is related to burns the poet we went to visit his house etc and walked from the haven park so a bit of exercise. we really enjoyed it but i think the mountains south of ayrshire were the prettiest bit we saw with a fab clear sky at night! we also a fantastic fish meal at one of the local pubs/wine bar. the beach not great but we only used the park as a base. enjoy yourself will the fun all the same!0
