Wonder if anyone can help, I know I've seen a thread about Linux and wireless dongles but can't find it now, and a search including Orange doesn't bring it up so here goes.
I have a snazzy Eee PC netbook, running Windows XP, and a neat little Orange wireless dongle for when I'm out and about. It works fine.
DH has a not quite so snazzy Acer netbook, running Linux of some variety. We haven't yet plugged my dongle into his machine, but we did try a borrowed 3 dongle a while ago, and it didn't work.
So, where would we look for instructions on getting an Orange dongle to work on Linux?
TIA

Well, it's black, but I'm sure we can find the model number somewhere! Will let DH play tonight ...Signature removed for peace of mind0

If you plug it in to your linux laptop.
Bring up a terminal window (not sure how to do that on your version)
but there's a command that tells you what's plugged into the USB ports
"lsusb" will display all the USB ports and any device plugged in via USB.
it should look something like this:bill@ion:~$ lsusb Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 002 Device 008: ID 12d1:1003 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E220 HSDPA Modem / E270 HSDPA/HSUPA Modem Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 006 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

Well, he's not managed it yet, but I'm not sure what the problem is or how hard he's tried. Will try to connect with him later ...Signature removed for peace of mind0
