Help - redundant and pregnant!

Hi,
The company I work at has undergone a restructure, resulting in redundancies, one of which is unfortunately me.

To add to the stress (although it is lovely news and planned before the work situation happened) I am 10 weeks pregnant.

My partner works in a restaurant on minimum wage, we do not have any savings, I have an overdraft of about £1k from struggling on my own before I met my partner. There is no way we can live on his salary, even if we are very frugal!! I want to know if I can get any help paying our mortgage when I am jobless. I will sign on to get JSA, and of course I will try to get a new job but it might be difficult when I start to show, and I am worrying already about telling potential new employers. Any new job I will not get maternity pay, but I am so scared that I am going to lose our flat if the payments cant be met. Can anyone advise??

Thanks xx

You may get help - you need to ask your local Jobcentre for the mortgage advice line it's a department in your local Benefit Delivery Centre, it's a dedicated number you can get from your Jobcentre. They can usually pay the interest portion of your mortgage however there is a qualifying period (13 weeks from memory) - best thing is to speak to the experts at the Benefit Delivery Centre.

HOWEVER as your partner is working I think that might disqualify you from the eligability criteria - as you would need to claim as a couple, and his income would be factored into the calculations.

Best thing to do is ask the experts - by giving them a call.

    Good luck
