Can I return or exchange?

I bought a kettle from Comet around 18 months ago and no longer have the receipt. The kettle is one that lights up blue on standby and red when boiling but the blue light stopped working. The manual claims 'the LEDs which illuminate this kettle are designed to last the lifetime of the kettle'.
So can I return this to the store after this amount of time without a receipt? I only want an exchange for another kettle and not a refund.
Thanks

You can try, but I wouldn't expect too much. The fact is the fault doesn't really affect the operation of the kettle.
How much did the kettle cost when new?0 -
I think it was around £35.
I actually bought it because of the lights. It looked pretty in the kitchen at night!0 -
Might it be guaranteed for 2 years?
If not, you'd have to find some proof of purchase, get a report done and wait for Comet to replace. Tbh, it's probably easier to live without a blue light.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
We've got one and the lights stopped working after about a year. I didn't realise they were supposed to last for the life of the kettle.
It did look pretty lit up, but it looks a bit naff nowHere I go again on my own....0 -
I had a Morphy Richards kettle that starting leaking after about a year.
I gave Morphy Richards a ring and they said would send out a new one for free if I could email/fax them proof of purchase/credit card statement etc: not for any guarantee purposes, but more to prove I actually owned the kettle and wasn't just trying to get a freebie.
Naturally I'd lost the receipt and couldn't remember how much I'd paid, but even then they posted me a new one for half-price. So quite chuffed with their service there - so maybe worth a shot for you, and they've got to have better service than Comet!
Cheers

If memory serves me correctly Morphy Richards have a 2 yr guarrantee. In addition to that the model number will give them a pretty accurate indication of when it was made, so doesn't sound like they did you any favours there.0 -

Fair point, but given that I couldn't remember where I had purchased the kettle at all, and that I was unwilling to send it back for them to check and repair - as I'd then have to buy a new kettle anyway - still (just!) better to get a half-price kettle than a full price one...
Still, for the OP, just goes to show it's well worth ringing the manufacturer, but don't be fooled as easily as I was!0 -
Our Brita kettle started leaking after about 9 months.
Wrote a letter to the manufacturer as no longer had the receipt. They in turn (correctly) sent us to the retailer.
After some issues around the receipt, they eventually swapped it when I showed the box had a disabled RFID tag from their store and the model was released under a year ago, so couldn't be out of warranty0 -

Hi Mi55pink
My name's Phil and I'm from Comet
Unfortunately we would not be able to exchange your kettle without the receipt.
If your kettle is the Morphy Richards Ilumina model, this was supplied with a two-year guarantee. Therefore, if you do find your receipt within the guarantee period, please return the kettle to your local store. We will test it and on confirmation of a fault we will be able to exchange it for you.
Hope this helps
