If you want to play Sims 3, look at the box and find out what the recommended specs are, not the minimum! Then buy, or get built, a PC that meets, or exceeds them.
It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

On your other threads, the advice was that upgrading it isn't out of the question

pentium 4 cpu 40 GHZ 2.40 GHZ 768 mb of RAM

Nvidia geforce 4 64mb dedicated video memory

decent pc, your only issue seems to be sims3, what happens when you install it?

Take the cover off, on top of the cpu (look for a big chip with a heatsink on top), there will be a fan, is it spinning?

Upgrading ram and graphics cards are as easy as changing a fuse in a plug, they just slot in.

HD: Try for higher than 500GB

Processor: Look into the Core i3 or Core i5 range. You could go with Core i7 but that's a bit overkill imo.

Windows 7: Yes, most new machines have this as standard

Memory: Try for 4GB or higher

Graphics card: This is a little trickier. The best thing I can recommend is to visit Tom's Hardware and look at the various scores that the latest cards have and try to avoid any that are ranked near the bottom.

    http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/graphics-cards,1.html

Usually the 3DMark06 scores are quite telling.

Then it's a case of looking about to find either a ready built machine that's right for you or going to a company that allows for custom options. I think Dell allow you to take stock models and modify them so maybe they could be worth a look?

Running slowly is easy to cure, reinstall windows or find out why.

if you hint at a budget we can provide more suggestions....

also if you read towards the end of this thread
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=2038759&highlight=sims
we started with a relative computer novice who just wanted something good for playing SIMS3 on and we ended up getting her to buy a bare bones kit and build her own PC around it all by herself, and I think she got close to £200 budget wise too

    +1 for that.

Probably by now the OP has decided to buy a new PC and wants suggestions for machines with appropriate specifications.
