New Deal - Self Employment option?

Hi everyone,

Was just wondering whether anyone can provide me with some help on this New Deal Self Employment option?

My dad currently has an Ebay business, whereby he goes to auctions, buys his stock and then sells it on Ebay - he acutally makes quite a bit each month! He mainly deals in antiques.

I am now looking at starting my own Ebay business with my brother. We're looking at going to auctions, buying mixed lots and then selling them on through Ebay. We'd look at say taking £20 each to the auctions, buy some mixed lots - you can pick them up at auction for around £10. Then you tend to get items in there that will sell for £30, £50 etc... Then obviously the auction, take a bit more than £20 - i.e. invest the profit you make each time.

What i was wondering on the New Deal Self Employment option, is there any limit to the kind of business they will let you start? Could you start an Ebay business up through that, or not?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

I would think the best thing to do would be to ask the people at New Deal if it is possible. I assume you have started New Deal or will be soon as it was unclear from your previous thread.
  • Yes, i have started New Deal - been on it two weeks now.

I shouldn't see why it would be problem really. It is self employment, and that is one of the things you can do on that - try out a self employment business for 6 months.
  • If anyone has any information that would help, that would be great!

It was only the other day when you were trying to get out of it, now all of a sudden you have been on it for two weeks and appear to be very enthusiastic.

You see, our advice was good!

We were depressed last week, going to the doctor with it, plus an ear infection.

This week, suddenly we are fine and so well we can goto auctions and set up a business!

Another miraculous recovery on the benefits boards!

All hold hands and feeeeeeeeel the vibes.

Sorry to anyone who can give any useful advice, relating to the original question - that has to read these rants.

But it just annoys me how:

    1. Vader123 comes along accusing me of making my ear infection up, when i have infact been on antibiotics and ear drops for it, for the last week and go back to the doctors on Monday for the follow up. Or no? Vader123 - do you need photographic evidence of it?

    2. sunnyone? I see one of the New Deal things you can do is Self Employment (try out your idea whilst still on new deal for 6 months) - so come on to ask if anyone knows anything more about this option? So that isn't trying to get out of it when it's still on the New flipping Deal! Yes i'm over it i guess, because i've now got a positive outlook unlike i had before - i know what i want to do now!

Westlife2009, the point people are making is that a matter of days ago you were insisting that you were depressed. Depression does not disappear just because you have a new idea! Perhaps you need to think about things a little more before posting?
    Gone ... or have I?

If it's mild depression it could do i guess? I know from people who have had it, that the the best way of treating it is to find whats causing it and get that sorted. I think mine was caused by the fact that i had no idea what i wanted to do, and i got myself stuck in a rut of just applying for any old job that i saw. I had no idea about other things New Deal could do for you - like self employment. Now that i have an outlook of what i want to do, i feel alot better in myself. Plus i actually got myself out a bit, went shopping with my mum the other day. Rather than sitting in the house dwelling on the fact there's nothing that could possibly make me happy ever again like i have been doing.

I don't want people to laugh at my idea of going self employed as an Ebay business. I know am more than capable and i'm not doing it on my own, my brother is doing it with me.

Cos there's no such thing as manic-depressive?

Some people don't swing like a pendulum between emotional states?

Not having a dig at you, but I think the questions posed in individual threads should be answered in those threads.
