what is the event you are attending?
I know most employers would take a dim view if you are going partying but off sick -if on short term sick, which with a cold you would be.
Personally I would to work on Friday, if they send you home thats their decision?
That would solve the problem0 -

If it is during the day presumably it is outside your normal working hours, as if you were not ill and were at work you would be unable to attend?0

i would say that if you are taking the day off sick you shouldn't use this day to attend events (pre-arranged or otherwise). surely if it is a pre-arranged event and you feel you are healthy enough to attend it you should instead ask for the day off as part of your annual leave?
if you weren't off sick how were you planning on attending this event? if i was an employer i would take a dim view of this - not least as it is pre-planned.Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
Hello the Event is not a party or anything like that but a chance of winning a prize with a local Radio station but i have to go there to attend this function so no Booze or late nights just sit in there studio and hope to win.
My take on this is you already had some events this week [working days], so what makes you fit for this event that you weren't fit for working?
Also, are you likely to be on the radio? How is it going to look if someone from work hears you when you are signed off sick [not good, that's how it will look].
Is the prize worth losing your job over?0 -
My advice is not to go to the event.
Alternatively, you could send an e-mail to your work colleagues asking them to tune in to the radio so they can cheer you on. You never know, you may win a P45!0 -
If you are well enough to go out, you are well enough to work. Its going to look very bad if you stay off work but still head out on Friday night.
Go to work on Friday and struggle through , at least then when you head out and hopefully win the competition you won't have to 'watch your back' in case anyone from work sees you.
ps Good Luck0 -
If you really had proper flu; would you be up and about and on t'internet? Or would you be tucked up in bed?0

Had you arranged time off work already for this event, ie holiday or shift swap? That is, would you have been in work on Friday day time anyway or has this event come up and you would've missed it if you hadn't been off sick?
I wouldn't chance it myself.0 -
I would work out A (chance you will win), B (value of the prize), C (lost wages when you get sacked and cant find a job for 6 months).
if A*B > C then you should gomatched betting: £879.63
