is it possible to cut breakfast bar into round shape for breakfast table?

hi there we have just moved in to out new house and it has cream chaker style kitchen and timber block effect laminate worktop.i have been looking for a very small dining breakfast tablewith four chair but havent been able to find one with sam ecolour and there are none available in cream, colour.....hubby doesnt want glass table bc of kids around.....iam think of buying worktop same colour as breakfast bar and ask kitchen builder to cut it in round shape....i cannot fix teh breakfast bar with the wall as we are planning to have small tv to go in teh wall...also i think teh round shape will be good as space is limited.....cann anyone suggest if teh kitchen builder wil be able to do that .....??? iam thinking of buying table base from ikea and attach it to the round shape worktop ....the colour of is called timber block or oak woodmix in b and q.....do you thinks ist teh right idea AN DSHOULD I GO AHEAD WITH IT ..THANKS

    Should be doable quite easily, but only if the fitter has the right tools/workshop space to create a jig. He is very unlikely to be able to cut a perfect circle freehand. Also you need to be sure you can source the correct edging strip to finish the cut edge.

    I personally think you would be disappointed with the result. Unless you are going to join 2 pieces of worktop back to back then you will be limited to a diameter of about 600mm. Also because you are making a circle then you will loose any curve at the edge, just like the old fashioned formica tables.

    If you do decide to give it a go then you will need to cut the top out slightly oversized with a jigsaw and then use a router on a circular jig to provide you with a lovely crisp edge.

    IKEA do real wood timber block worktop which might be a better idea, would not need edging and can be given a rounded edge.

  • thanks a lot though i will have a look at the ikea table now...i spoek to my builder he said breakfast bar is availab ein 900 an d600 mm.i its available in 900 i gues it should be easy to do....but he ays he will have to check if he s able to do it ....i if manage to find table of same colour then it will save me trouble...i will keep you posted on what we decide !!!!
