How long did it take to open your Santander bond?

Have just applied online to open a 2 year Santander bond with the capital sum from another matured bond, the cheque for which was paid into the bank today.
How long did the process take with Santander? As it's a reasonable sum, am wondering whether I should transfer the matured sum into the bank's Easy Access Savings account for the duration in case there's a delay, or whether it would be more hassle than it's worth.

I got the email (with details on how to make the payment) within about 3 days, and there was then about 2 weeks max. by which I had to send the cheque to them - so probably not worth transferring the money elsewhere in the meantime in my opinion, unless it's a huge amount and you're going to wait until right up to the deadline to send the cheque.
