Car Reg linked to wrong car spec

Hi,
When trying to insure my car recently I ran into a recurring problem where insurers looked up my car registration and came back with the correct make and model of car, but not the correct engine size.
Some insurers allow you to go in and correct that data, but in some cases it was limiting the variety of quotes I could get, and potentially the best price available.
I've checked with the Driver Vehicle Licensing ppl and they have the correct data, as do the manufacturers. I've also checked out the vin numbers and it all lines up.
Insurers are claiming they are checking DVL records, but they can't be if the DVL are right and the results the insurers are getting are wrong. I've heard mention of the motor insurance database - could this maybe be the source of the bad data? I've looked on their website, but can't see information on how I might going about getting this corrected.
I would welcome thoughts anyone has on who I should be talking to about this - I've been going round in circles on it and it's getting very frustrating!
Thanks!

No, MID records regsitration number, the insurer, the policy number, the start and end dates of a policy.
Insurer's info comes from DVLA via database companies, so they might take a while to refresh. If the DVLA have the correct details, then there isn't much you can do other than either buy from an insurer that lets you correct the details online, or just phone the insurer, who will no doubt be able to amend the details on the system.0
