Experian credit score 995 not out/Virgin credit card 0

Been subscribed to Experian credit check at the cost of £6.95 a month and paid another £6.95 to get my credit score of 995
Applied to Virgin/MBNA as chosen by Experian as my best match.
Over 3 weeks later they told me a two words answer and the second was OFF!
AND LEFT A BIG SIZE 9 FOOTPRINT ON CREDIT FILE.
Mind you should have expected it if MBNA were involved ,probably the nastiest financial instution around,so their staff say!!

I just take what Experian 'match' you to with a pinch of salt TBH.
Exact same thing happened with me fairly recently but with a different credit card (although I didn't pay for the credit score thing as I think it's a waste of time).0 -
Charging £5.95 for a random number is obscene. In fact, I'm going to complain to the Advertising Standards Agency today about the wording they use. Should set the cat amongst the pigeons....Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

Given that Experian told me I will have a "Score" of 900 if I lay off applications for six months - even with a BR order and seven defaults on my file!
Goes to show what an absolute load of codswollop the "Score" (Lottery number) they sell is if someone with a history of bankruptcy can get a score of 900...Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

i can give you a score each month for a small fee £5.94 a month.
actually i will do it for free:
this month you have a score of 900, please go and apply for everything thats main stream.
next month you will have a score of 400 and i think i will tell you to apply to vanquis and crappy1.
paying for a score that means nothing is madness, cancell it asap its a pure waste of money as all lenders have different criteria for there produts and a random number credit score means nothing to all of them.:j:beer: :j0 -
It's not even free. Experian say it's free, but only to see the report which gives you everything you know anyway. You still have to pay to get that experian number, which is out of 999 I think.
I did it once as it was my first time I chose to see it. They make you phone them up to cancel it which is where they try their sales tactic to make you keep the useless account. Such as 'don't you care about your score?' LMAO
Cancelled it in there and then.

4, COOP -YES
:money:Yes I know it will bu--er up my credit score(whatever that is) for 12months but wanted to show how fickle these institutions are

Experian gave MBNA exactly the same data they showed you but MBNA took into more information than Experian have when calculating your score.
Creditors take into account the following information when scoring you, that the CRAs don't hold:
Income
Time with employer / Time at address / Time with bank
Dependants / Marital status
Residential status
Occupation
Etc...
They also use a different technique to devise your score - they all do. Some rate certain criteria more highly than others, hence there is no such thing as one score fits all ergo the score purchased from a CRA is a crock.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Hope after this you have canceled Experian credit check and stopped wasting money getting a meaningless number pulled out the hat for 7 quid a month!0 -
Hi all, wish I had read this forum before signing up to Experian! I had a blip on my bills bank account over Christmas (I had seen this coming and requested an overdraft from my bank to help, but they said no).. susequently approx 5 direct debits were unable to leave my account and I was charged £190 in all by my bank. I have since sorted out the blip and am back in the black. However, I applied for a credit card this month and got refused, being told that my credit rating was probably shot.
I signed up to Experian after reading the advice on this website and can't see anything negative on there. So I paid for the report and got the highest score! I was so relieved! However, I have just done a credit card 'pre-check' with Barclaycard and they are still refusing me - its all so confusing!
Why is Experian allowed to charge people if the results it gives are inacccurate?!
Any advice would be gladly appreciated
Thanks

Experian market their score as a "Guide to how healthy your report is"... NOT a "Definite credit score comparable with scores that potential creditors would give you".
Hence they get away with it.
