Laptop Battery Life

I have a Gericom Laptop, about 10 months old. Despite minimum use on battery, it now refuses to recharge! Is it dead, or could it be, as someone suggested, a Motherboard fault?
No reliance should be placed on the above.

If a laptop battery is not charged correctly then that very thing will happen. It is essential to gve the battery its memmory before heavy recharged cycles.
The first charge of a battery like that is the most important , it should be charged then drained at cmos BEFORE any real use.
Do a google on battery memmory , it doesnt apply to ALL batteries ie remotes , radios etc , just ceratin chemical ones like l-ion that are exlcusive to the mahine its used on.0 -
Thankyou for your replies...firstly, I will know better next time regarding battery recharging/discharging. Secondly, it carries a warranty of only 6 months on the battery! Thanks again. No reliance should be placed on the above.0

Further to webmaster's excellent advice, if you use laptop plugged into mains, this drastically reduces battery life, so remove battery (unless it is needing charged!) This is something manufacturers don't like to tell you - wonder why? ::)
If the battery is totally gubbed, have heard that popping it into a well sealed plastic bag and putting in freezer can revive it a bit!Allow it to defrost totally and come to room temperature before using. Suppose if it is outwith warranty and not working at all, you have nothing to lose!

I heard that tip Anne-Marie, tried it, made absolutely no difference. My 3 yo battery lasts 10 mins on a good day!!
The answer as suggested is to fully charge, remove from laptop and store, fully discharging and recharging now and again if using laptop on mains mostly. I could buy a new batter at around £120 but I will make the laptop do another year then buy a new one!0
