can credit card companies refuse to accept letters?

I am being chased by MBNA for two credit cards, I have struggled to pay these off and have, I admit missed payments.
But anyway,
They call my parents house as they say they no longer have a contact number for me since I moved house.
I have written informing them of my house move etc and also asking for a possible payment plan.
They say they do not deal in writing...
Can they do this?

No, you can insist all communication is in writing and from a legal point of view you only want to deal in writing, ideally by recorded delivery then they can't argue they didn't receive it.

Your parents should consider any communication as harrassment for debts which they are not responsible for.
