Thinking of buying a Sony TV

Options
I have seen a Sony Tv in John Lewis:
SONY KDL-37S5500 37" LCD. £499.

I have read a review that the quality isnt that good, just wondered what you all thought?
It is for watching TV only not gaming.

If not do you have any other suggestions for the same price mark?
Thanks

How much was it after xmas? I thought £499 was a bargain.

Id hazard a guess that site never set it up correctly and from reading it they clearly dont have a clue what theyre talking about

Im not sure of the price of that particular model, but over xmas there were some real bargains to be had. Prices have since gone up

Motion blur and bad upscaling aren't really things that can be corrected by setting up your TV properly.

Not that I'm saying I agree with them, but just because George Lucas hasn't personally set up their TV, it doesn't mean their comments have no validity.

"Although the KDL-37S5500 can accept 24fps material from a Blu-ray player - a movie mode that’s supposed to slow-down the action ever so slightly to reduce judder"
    Absolute rubbish

I have a W5500 and can tell you that it takes approx 3 weeks before the scaling chip is working at its best

I could go on but ive no real interest to...........

    Oh Lord, not this again.

Solid state electronics do not change over time.

If someone complained their new computer was running slowly, and I suggested they let it burn in for a few weeks, you'd think I was nuts.

Im sorry Marty but it did
My tv looked absolutely awful watching SD content but is now far better

Many others have said the same about the W5500s

    The end...........

You should write and tell people who make electronic devices. It's amazing to think how much better everything could be if they followed this simple principle. If I'm ever on a life support machine, I hope they give me one that has been burned in before use.

Of course, it's absolutely unthinkable that you just got used to how it looks.

Sometimes Marty I find you unbelievable

You honestly think I just make this stuff up dont you?

If it was just my eyes theyd take about an hour to adjust and thats if I was very ill

UPSCALED SD content looked generally fine so it was definitely something to do with letting the Sony upscale

Now drop it !!!!!! ~ im not going to tell you any different regardless of what you say

I'm just curious as to why you think TVs are special, and the electronics in them are different than the electronics in everything else.

If I let my calculator burn in, will it give me different answers than one that hasn't been burned in?
