There will be another member of staff on that floor but they will be sleeping from 11-7.
Her husband is unable to pick her up as he is also working, plus she will need to bring her car back home.
he is trying to arrange for there son to go over with a friend so that he can bring his mum home.
Her working hrs will be from 8.30am -till 7.30am
Thanks for the replies.Every cloud has a silver lining:j0 -
She is almost certainly breaking the law. You are not allowed to drive when you are so tired that you are a danger to yourself and other road users.0

when you say that the later shift is a "waking night" - do you mean she is on call? so she will be sleeping but should any problems arise she is the staff member who will deal with them? or is she expected to be awake and on duty? there is quite a difference. if she is just 'on call' i don't think this counts as working straight through. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0

As i understand it she is on duty! She would wake the other person if there is any problems.Every cloud has a silver lining:j0

I don't understand why this has become a 'employee rights' issue. Of course there are health and saftey implications but primarily this is a family matter. SIL is not being forced to work the extra hours - she says that she wants to do it for the money. If your brother isn't happy about it, instead of invoking working time rules and preaching health and safety, they should try sitting down like adults to discuss it.0

Quite agree with you, Sulkisu. But both myself and brother cant understand why anybody would let someone do theses hrs when there is children involved, I think theses kids also have E/B problems.Every cloud has a silver lining:j0

Since when has it been illegal to drive when your tired?
From http://www.safermotoring.co.uk/driving-whilst-tired.html
What Does the Law say About Driving While Tired?
There isn't a specific law that states that it is an offence to drive when you are tired, but the chances of a driver committing a driving offence while tired are increased. If you are found to have been asleep when an accident occurred, depending on the severity of the collision and any injuries sustained, you could find yourself charged with dangerous driving, the penalties for which can be severe.0 -
I wasn't allowed to do this when I worked in a care home but if I had to do a day and night back to back (which due to sickness did happen on occasion) I would be allowed to doze throughout the shift but only after the clients were all in bed, asleep and the last checks had been done. Usually it would be a day shift, then a sleep, then another day** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **

I do it all because I'm scared.

So the first shift is 8.30 to 3.30 7 hours
then the next one is 3.30 to 7.30 16 hours
that's a long shift on it's own.0 -
