Replacement Battery for laptop help, can't find one

Options
Hi everyone,

I got my DD a used laptop at xmas and the battery is rubbish, lasts 10-15 mins tops.
The laptop is a Philips Freevents model number H12Y, on the back of the battery it has Lithium-ion Model name 2200 #8092 scud
I've tried everywhere including ebay and that battery was just as bad.
Does anyone know if you can get a universal battery or even an original?

Thanks in advance

  • Old laptops will have old batteries,ie made back then and now aged and just as poor as you have found out the hard way from eBay, in my opinion. Try Philips?

perhaps there is some kind of 'external' power pack you could use to power it on the go?

tho by the time you've paid 'whatever' for a used laptop and added an ebay battery and whatever you'll buy next you'll be rapidly approaching the £200 you could get a new/factory refurbished laptop from the likes of dell outlet? would likely be a much faster/more powerfull machine too

This is the Philips page for your model which is out of stock at the moment and similar spec at Duracell

Don't know if it's the same or not but it's a much higher capacity so if it is it should last longer than your current one. Contact Currys to confirm availability.

    Hello,

What is the deal with these laptop batteries then? How should they be treated to get maximum life out of them? Mine died after a year but was plugged into the mains constantly. The battery was only used when It had a rare outing to work. I naiively assumed that keeping it plugged in was keeping it fully charged! In fact it seems I was draining the life out of it.
  • Thanks for the reply's everyone, £60 for a new battery  yikes! I had tried that company before but they said they didn't stock them, well lesson learnt, never buy a used laptop :(

How about rebuilding the existing battery?

    Here's a nice how-to video.

there's an article that goes into a bit more detail about the protection crcuit in case you are concerned about that:

Probably as safe as buying a no-name replacement off Ebay (I replaced the li-ion batt in my Tomtom on a similar basis).
  • Hi buglawton,

I don't think i would be able to do it, but i know someone who might be able to, thanks for the link
  • i was told if you are using your laptop mostly at home charge the battery to half power then take it out...... this will make it hold its charge more when used without electric..
