Hey ladies, good to see some PMA and high spirits are back!
Wish I could say the same for me... As I think I've mentioned, I'm currently in Sydney with my job and the loose plan was to start TTC in Aug/Sept, but the more I think about the more I think we should wait longerfor lots of reasons:
1. I don't want to be in Australia when I have a baby, mainly because I want to be close to friends and family. My mum would be devastated if we were so far away when bubs turns up, and so would I. As my parents are divorced we've got 3 sets of grandparents very close by to help out back home. We only know a few people here, and are not close to them yet.
2. Maternity leave here is rubbish - 6 weeks 100%, then 6 weeks 50%. We could probably afford for me to take 6 months off in total. Essentially I would use my annual bonus to fund this along with OH's income. My best friend at home has a 7 month old and is just starting to get fun. It would do me in to have to leave bubs in a nursery (prob 3 days a week) at 6 months old. Back home I would get 18 weeks 100%, 8 weeks 50%, then 26 weeks SMP so would take the full year. And whilst I'd still hope to go back for 3 days a week initially, the grandparents are all itching to help out with child care.
3. We've only been here for 3 months so far, and supposed to be here for 2 years. If I got preg (wishful thinking it happens fast) in Sept, I'd need to be considering going home in March. We've got people coming to stay Oct - Mar, so it seems unfair on them to come out when I'd be fat/grouchy/tired/boring/sober and then going home a little while after. It means all the fun activites (diving, rafting, etc) we could do here in Oz wouldn't happen and I'd be preggers in the hottest part of the Aussie year.
4. OH loves it here and has got a great job, I'd feel bad making him leave sooner than planned. We spent the last 5 years wondering if work would let me transfer to Sydney, then when I finally asked they said yes. Just sods law that it now really interferes with my baby-making plans and broodiness.
5. Saving for a few extra months will help us when we go home. We're aiming for a big deposit to buy a house when we get back and the money is good here.
I guess a few more months won't make that much of a difference but I'm really down about it. When I turned 30 a little while ago, it was like someone flicked the broodiness switch on. I know I'm not that old, but my big fear is that my eggs might dry up (perhaps they already have)... I'd always wanted a May-Oct baby too and even then I'll be 31 and a half when I have my first baby. I guess I just need to cross my fingers and hope that it happens quickly.
Anyway, sorry for the mammoth post, I just needed to get it written down and don't have anyone IRL to talk to.0 -
Bluemonkey, can't you get your mum to come and stay with you for few months in OZ after the baby is born to help out?
Welcome natsing:wave: Hope your stay is short here in the nicest possible way!
Fingers crossed this is your month sexki11en
MV, everyone and every pregnancy is different. You didn't get any symptoms last time you were pg, but you think it was because it was not meant to be. I got morning sickness etc last pg, but it didn't work out either;)
Perhaps you are one of those lucky people who doesn't get pg symptoms?0 -

Possibly, but it's she'd have to drop quite a lot back home, and we're only in a 1 bedroom place here so it might cost a fair whack for her (us?) to stay somewhere else. And if I do have the baby here, it would mean crappy maternity leave/pay. It's not just her either, I want all the other grandparents to be involved too.
I'm sure I'd meet other mums here, but then when we did go back home other than my friends with kids I wouldn't have NCT or ante-natal classmates to make friends with. Plus I think it would be a bigger palaver going home with a baby seeing as we'd probably need to rent somewhere to begin with before buying, whereas if we rent then look to buy when I'm pg, at least we could potentially move in before baby is born.
Patience isn't my strong point. I guess this will teach me for wanting my cake and eating it. I also would've like to get married before getting up the duff, but not sure I'd want to do that here either. Beginning to regret moving here now.:(
Maybe this is a big lesson in learning to just go with the flow and see what happens...
To summarise my ideal sitch: Get pregant in December, fly home in June, buy a house and move in August, have baby in September, take year off. Let's see!!
I'll stick around on this thread because I want to see you lot get your BFPs, and then perhaps come Christmas I'll have my own0 -

Do stick around though, you might change your mind:D0 -
The nasty AF is here Grrrrr. Nevermind, it is very early on on our trying (3 wks). At least now I have a specific date to start working out Ovulation timings instead of guessing.
Blue Monkey - I am in a similar situation - I don't live in the UK either but am a lot closer than you (Poland) but we could be anywhere by the time I get pregnant. I would like to have my kids in Oz (it is somewhere we are considering) due to the wonderful outdoor lifestyle... but as you said the downside is the lack of family. Its tough but of course you know what is best for you and your family to be."People buy things they don't need, with money they don't have, to impress people they don't like" - Clive Hamilton on Consumerism.0 -

Better luck next month Trixie... Thing is, we didn't come to Oz for a better life as such, we came because we were restless after being home for a few years after backpacking/travelling round the world in 2005. Work were happy to give me a transfer and we knew we'd be spending a couple of years saving some cash for a deposit so figured we may as well go somewhere nice whilst we're doing it.
The lifestyle is nice here, but not that different from home if I'm totally honest. Yes the weather is better, but that will never ever replace friends and family for me and I am a proper sunworshipper. Horses for courses I guess, I'm glad we're here, but will also be happy to go home when the time comes.0 -
BFN this morning - but it was expected. AF not due till around Tues. Still at least I get to see the doctor this afternoon now and can hopefully start to get things moving.
