Switching with new home
We have just bought a brand new house, and have taken the meter readings for gas, electric, and water. The builder has told me that British Gas and Scottish & Southern supply the gas and electric respectively, but I was wondering if it was possible to switch suppliers without even getting anything from these two firms? I don't know if there would be a penalty for switching, and if so who would pay it. I haven't even spoken to BG or S&S to tell them we've completed yet, but would I even need to if I just went straight to Powergen (for example)?
