    Perhaps you have stumpy legs.

    Doubt it

Far more likely the OP is one of these people who think his eyes need to be ahead of the steering wheel.

The new style Yaris at least has massive leg room.

Nissan Note, loads of legroom, and economical.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Err, no it doesn't. Each to his own but yes I've tried the Yaris and it is without doubt a terrible car when it comes to let room and so is the Auris. If you try the related Daihatsu Sirion it's much better in every regard. I suggest you go and test a Colt, Fiesta, Corsa and see what real room is.

In the USA people like Toyota's but tall people don't fit, so after market companies sell extended seat rails! Why would they do these if the cars were fine?

What we need is a car so small you can simply remove the front seat and sit on the back one and drive :D

Another vote for the Note. The new model diesel is £35/year tax and we can't get less than 52mpg.

I am 6'3" and can sit anywhere in the vehicle in comfort.

I have driven both a Fiesta and a Corsa as hire cars and tbh found the leg room horrendous compared to the Yaris.

Matter of opinion but can't help but think some people just feel the need to sit to close to the steering wheel

I'm 6'1" and felt cramped in the last model Polo (I don't kow what mark it was, but they phased it out in 2009) and the Corsa C.

Corsa D is roomy for a small car (I learnt in one) and I now drive a Vauxhall Astra H (MK5) which I've just bought - taking a bit of time to get the seat exactly where I like it but there's plenty of room :T

Before the Astra I had a Nissan Almera (2000-2006) which was also roomy enough :)

Hearing the problems you had with the Focus though - you might want to think about your seat and steering wheel position and try to change it. I didn't have such problems even in the small cars I mentioned.

Mines the 1.6 petrol, and that never dips below 40mpg, and that's round town.

The new Connect, Radio,CD,SatNav,Bluetooth,USB unit is rather nice too.
