Amazon returns - correct me if Im wrong

Isnt it illegal for Amazon to charge £2.75 if you return an item? I bought 2 books which were not what I was looking for even going by the description and they are trying to refund minus £2.75 for each book. I thought under the distance selling act that you had 7 days from receipt to return and that online sellers had to refund any postage and could not charge admin or restock fees?

Can we have more details please. Is this Amazon or an Amazon trader? Are they actually charging you a restocking fee or are they simply charging you postage to return the items, which of course they are allowed to do under the DSRs.

yes thats correct. could you argue the weight and the cost to them as both would cost less to have been posted back

In that case yes, a retailer is allowed to recoup any costs in recovering the items. Why didn't you pay to return them yourself?

They would probably say that you could have paid the postage yourself and not used their freepost label.

I always choose the one that is something like "item performance does not meet intended standards" (or similar wording). Never been charged for delivery on this option.

Not really applicable for a book. ;)

I've returned several books for this reason, on several occassions.

Mostly just textbooks which I ordered, read the first page and didn't get on with the author's way of writing things. The item didn't perform as well as I expected, so I returned it for that reason!
  • Aren't books (like DVDs, CDs, software, etc) exempt from the Distance Selling Act anyway?
