I think that you can also dial 112 from your mobile as well as 999.

    didn't know that. thanks.
  • Just had to add my bit!
Although not a major incident I live and work in different areas. During one of the many storms of the summer a tree was blown down on my route home, I phones the local number for the police just to inform them. I was informed that this was outside their border (by 2 miles at most!) OK I understood they were busy and I had not called as an emergency more for information, could they pass the information onto the neighbouring police force? No. Could they give me the number so I could? No.
So what should have been a very quick 20 second call, ie there is a tree down on the A? at ???. Turned into three seperate calls (including directory) to be logged on two seperate computer systems!
    Smile it confuses people!

Emergency No`s for Police are 999 or 112.There are "local" numbers depending on which County you are in for non-emergencies, i.e. Lancashire:- 0845 1 25 35 45. Look in your own telephone book for your "local" non-emergency number, under Police.
