I have a few issues at present with my card company.

Going back to October, I noticed a charge on my statement for ~£25 for something that I wasn't aware of. I only use my card for one thing, and this appeared on my statement as normal.

I telephoned to query it, and was sent various forms which I completed and sent back recorded delivery.

Despite the issuer saying that would monitor the account, and me stating that I have no idea who the company that is charging my account is, I don't seem to be getting anywhere. The provider is a major high street bank, and they do not seem to really be doing anything to try and resolve this.

Somebody was supposed to contact me today, however the call never came. This has also happened a few times. I phoned them back, and was told that even if I cancelled the account, if someone still issued a charge to the card I would be liable. Surely this isn't correct.

Any advice appreciated.

  • Were they able to identify the company for you? Or give any indication where the charge may have originated?

If you don't seem to be making progress, you could try raising it as a formal complaint. I'm assuming that they have suspended interest on the amount, whilst it is in dispute? Ask your bank for their complaints procedure (or you can usually find it online).

If they do not resolve a formal complaint then you can ask the financial ombudsman to take it up on your behalf (although that in itself can take forever).
  • No it's not correct. Ring and tell them you want it referred to their complaints procedure. If they tell you to write remind them that the FSA says you don't have to and they now have 8 weeks to sort it out!

The company showing on the statement is a carta1.com, which from googling seems to be some sort of subscription thing. I've never even heard of them, and as I say I don't really use the card other than for one thing per month, which never changes.

I've got around about £19,000 in accounts with this bank, so if push comes to shove I'll go in, close the accounts and open up outside their group of banks.
