I would like some help/advise to who to get my son's new car insurance from? He has just pst his test and paid £1200 for a Citron Saxo 1100 year 2000.
The cheapest third party insurance is £2408 for the year, twice the cost of the car. Can anyone please help?

See if a quote for comprehensive with a massive excess (eg swiftcover let you take £1000 voluntary excess) comes out any cheaper - otherwise the quote you have is in the ballpark for boys at 17.0

Try the following which gives some advice about insurance for youngsters.

There are also quite a few threads on insurance for young drivers, you will have to search back over the last couple of months.
Insurance does depend on vehicle, age of driver, post-code etc so even if someone states they got something similar for half the price, it may be they live in a low postcode area and you live in a higher postcode area, which will impact on the price.
Insurance for young male drivers is also a lot higher than females of the same age, simply because statistics prove that they are a higher risk. Please do not take offence as your son might not follow the norm, but when insurers are looking at pricing risk they look at accident statistics for various age groups. Unfortunately young male drivers who have recently passed their tests are one of the highest!0 -
As they say above. Also, the unfortunate truth is that because so many young men have their big smashes in Saxo's, a lot of insurers have placed them into higher rating bands to try to avoid that business.0

I was 19-20 when i passed my test, My first car was a 2001 Citroen Saxo, which i had paid £1275 for.
I found that e-car was the cheapest, around £100 a month i think. Saxo's are high in the insurance group. I wouldnt recommend them as a first car purely on the insurance cost....Nor would i reccomend e-car for that matter, the worst customer service ive ever recieved!
Big warning though...... I let my step dad handle the insurance for me, and i just paid him £100 a month from my wages. What i didnt know though, was that he had the car down as his, and i was named driver. This was not true, as i had bought the car myself with my savings, and it was registered to me.
Anways this was all good and fine, untill a few months later i was at a round-a-bout, i entered it, was going round all nice ad happy, when this guy enters infront of me and i drive straight into him.....He was totally at fault, i had 2 witnesses who said he was turning around in his seat all the way down the road, probably telling off his kids in the back.So he wasnt paying attention and caused an accident.
Should of been an open and shut case for the insurance, but this is where what my step dad done, telling them the car was his, came into it.This invalidated th insurance, and therefore i recieved !!!!!! all from my company. Al my savings gone, despite the fact he was at fault!
So the lesson is, no matter how temping it is to get cheaper insurance, dont lie on the documents! I hope this helps =]0 -
I know some details from their car, which is the Citron Saxo 1100 . This car has a low insurance and easy to get that car insurance, there are many online car insurances that will support this car. I really like that you had an idea to put the car of your son to the safest insurance group. This might have to help your son, for two grown safety driver and made a lot act how to drive properly.0
