No V5 no tax

Hiya we are looking at buying an old baanger as a run around for £350 but it has no v5 i am not happy about it but ohs friend says it is clean just the people have lost the paperwork if we go ahead how would we tax it?

Get a form from the post office and send a cheque for £25. They'll issue a new V5.

Assuming it's legit.

Ask them to phone DVLA in your presence, they speak to DVLA and authorise the DVLA to speak to you on the phone to tell you the RK details.

If they still have the tax renewal reminder they don't need the V5 to get new tax for it so if it is insured they could tax it before selling to you. Otherwise you won't be driving it for about 6 weeks while you get paperwork sorted

Don't touch the car with a bargepole until the sellers have filled in a V62 and received their replacement V5 in their name. Make sure the new V5 is filled in correctly and you take the green tear off slip which will then allow you to tax the car using a V10
